Obama has had a big upswing in popularity among Hispanics in Colorado recently, partly for sensible reasons and partly because of some inscrupulous politics.

The basic view of Hispanics is 'finally there a minority representative who will be able to stand up for us against those guys.'

This has been fueled by some controversial radio adds being run on Spanish radio that take sound bites from Rush Linbaugh's shows, some taken out of context, that are awful slams on Hispanic people ... peppered with several comments about John McCain and his friends like Rush Linbaugh. The add makes John McCain look very racist and anti-immigration. The add is the worst case of race baiting I've ever heard of, it falsely characterises John McCain and it has the standard trailer approval by Barack Obama.

This emotional racist appeal has had huge success and when there is discussion about the accuracy of the slams against McCain, the majority of hispanics indicate they aren't concerned about the factual content of the add, they got the message loud and clear that a vote for Obama is a vote against oppression of minorities.
