yes but the flip side of this is Gore in 2000. Gore did the noble thing by stepping aside, bla bla bla. But in reality he didn't want it enough- the clintons would have fought tooth and nail- sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

I want Obama to do what he needs to do to win and try to do it with as much dignity as possible. I don't want him to wimp out like Gore.

McCain destroyed his best argument - experience - when he picked Palin.

Karl Rove was counting on Hillary Clinton to provide the Republican base with a reason to vote. Sen. Clinton is a great person, but without her on the ticket McCain's base was uninspired. He was forced to spend his VP pick to energize the base.

As you pointed out yesterday the McCain/Palin momentum had been lost. It started as a reaction to the attack and smear hysteria. Obama told his supporters to knock it off, but with the pigs with lipstick comment it came across more as a wink and a stop it some more comment'. That was a risky period for Obama but he got through it partly with McCain's support.

John McCain put things back on track when he said Obama wasn't calling Palin a pig.

Obama should have insisted that Spanish add with his approval trailer be pulled, but he didn't. He should have declared openly that he knows John McCain is not a racist and has a supportable position on immigration. The add has already been seen so who ever is fired up by it will remain loyal to Obama but Obama also has the obligation to set the facts straight if he hopes to maintain the integrity of his charismatic appeal.

The hateful SeachRE's and such see stuff like this as validating their over the edge lunacy.

"He'd better be careful about destroying his brand, and creating openings for the other side."

You know it can happen over night, and its like trust; wherein, once its gone its pretty much over. This Spanish add thing is huge.
