China made shorting ALL stocks illegal 6 months ago.

Go look at a 6 month chart of China's stock market- it has fallen 60 percent since then.

Pakistan made shorting illegal too- take a look at their recent stock market. There was a little "woo hoo!" bounce of 3 days, then their market plunged into the abyss.

Why don't we just go to the logical conclusion and make it illegal to sell any stock. All you can do is buy. Then we'll all watch our stocks go to the moon! Hoooraaay!

If anything, I see a ban on shorting as a massive boom opportunity for the options market.

Call me when everyone is running for the door, and you need someone to buy that worthless piece of paper in order to make that "orderly" market you so wish.

The SEC has just pulled the floor out of the market.
