It is an interesting question that you pose. The shorts argue that markets can't price efficiently without the counterbalancing efforts of short sellers. Yet Chinese markets don't seem to have much problem repricing risk, without requiring the even-handed effect of short-selling. How is that possible??

Australia just banned all stock shorting for 30 days at least. Not just financials.
