Ah but the govt coerced the banks to make bad loans (Community Reinvestment Act) and govt (Democratic) insiders ran FNM and FRE into the ground, making millions and hiding the losses with crooked accounting.

Are you still laughing? If it weren’t for the government bailing out Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and A.I.G., and rescuing people from Hurricane Ike and pumping tons of liquidity into the banking system, our economy would be a shambles. How would you like to hear the line today: “I’m from the government, and I can’t do a darn thing for you.”

I am in my second week w/o power at home and so far the govt has done nothing for me or anyone close to me. And thats not a complaint.

If it weren’t for the government bailing out Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac

The government created Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and they got in to as much trouble as they did partially because of their mandate to expand lending combined with an implicit government guarantee of their debt.

As for regular private companies and corporations. Well sure they enjoy bailouts, and when they don't need or want them, subsidies and other favors from the government. Companies are often like any other special interest when they get a chance to feed at the government trough.
