a stress test which was negative.

Looks like a stress test can give you a false positive if:

1) Your blockage is >70%

2) The "Glagov effect." Your plaque is outside the wall of the artery, called "the lumen," so that it doesn't obstruct the flow of blood. This doesn't get you off from a Heart Attack. It can rupture just as easily on the outside. Just means it won't give you angina.
