Oh, and this part is just an outright lie: The surge not only won battles. It also convinced Iraqis that we weren't going anywhere, and under that umbrella of security remarkable things began to happen. Sunnis and Shiites realized the enemies weren't the Americans or each other. They were the jihadists who brought nothing but violence, tyranny and oppression. That led to what would be called the Anbar Awakening, although Obama would have us believe it was just coincidence. U.S. forces recently turned over Anbar province, which before Petraeus was the worst of the worst, to Iraqi security forces. Time is a funny thing. You can't say that something in the future caused something in the past, unless you believe in time travel. The Anbar Awakening happened BEFORE THE SURGE, and contributed to much of the quieting of the violence. Once again, Republicans try revising history, but at least they should wait until most people who lived it are gone (e.g. how they now say the McCarthy was a good American).
