In WA State, they don't put your SS number on your DL, but they cross check with the SSA to make sure you are you. My problem was absurd because I had all the documentation they needed, but the SSA had left off the first letter of my first name; therefore, it did not come up in any searches. The SSA fixed it without my having to make another trip in, because it was obviously their error. However, when I left the office, there was no assurance that they would do that, and they wanted to see my birth certificate.
