1) Class action lawsuit under the Alien Tort Claims Act, and/or join the creditors of Lehman in the bankruptcy case.
I hope they can make a good recovery.

By the way, in some US states, Lehman would have had a legal DUTY to advise the person NOT to put all his assets in one place.
He may have some recourse against Lehman's local representatives and assets.

Lehman used to be one of the more conserative I-banks, not as much dot-com junk as Morgan Stanley or Goldman.

2) Always diversify, and do not put more than x % in any one firm or stock or deal.

That is a hard and nasty lesson to learn.
