I think Obama had his reasons for selecting the VP that he did. Rove needed an issue to get the Republican base fired enough to vote. It's more about congressional seats and local elections than McCain himself. Hillary Clinton was going to be that issue and Rove did everything possible but become her campaign manager to get her on the Democratic ticket. That's not Hillary's fault, she's been made out to be the base energizing demon for a decade, but by not having her on the ticket it forced Rove to select Palin (or someother social nutcase) for the base. It was a trade off, but with Biden the right wing conspiracy is going to have to start over instead of picking up right where they left off with the Clintons. TP
