Vintner, Freddie and Fannie were always symbols of the liberal socialism the right wingers hated. It had little to do with the loans thye were making. Most were pretty standard. It was the idea of their being quasi public agencies.

Neo cons want no public agencies at all. All private, right down to prisons!!

Freddie and Fanny were 5 trillion thorns in the neo cons side-lol. That particular agency really pissed them off-lol.

I agree with most of this about what happened, but I don't agree that Bush, personally, had a lot to do with it--the NY Times was saying he was trying to get FReddie & Fannie from doing these type of toxic loans.

The Bush administration has been in power for 8 years. They have regulatory duty.....that's part of the responsibility of any administration. Instead of enforcing those regulations, they chose to take a laissez-faire approach. I hold Bush and his chronies personally responsible. If I had my druthers, they would be taken out back and given a whupping......until their butts were so red they couldn't sit down for a week.
