I have a rev limiter in my car, but its for 143 mph.

Why bother.

Its not like I put it there, it came with the car, and I haven't bothered to remove it.

I suppose I guess they think limiting the top speed gets them some very minor positive PR (or some minor avoidance of bad PR) or some minor protection from lawsuits. I'm not sure that's the case but it may be.

And the rev limiter could have an effect in my car. Not that I'd drive it that fast (I've never been above about 95 and rarely above 80), but on a straight away it could definitely top that.

Its becoming more common on performance cars. The mega buck ultra high end cars won't have it because they want to advertise amazing top speeds (in excess of 200 mph), but more standard performance cars frequently have an artificially imposed limit that the car could otherwise exceed.
