I am shocked and befuddled at the lethargy being demonstrated.

What are we missing here?

My thoughts exactly.

The only explanation I can think of is few people have ever used gold as currency and most were not alive when currency was backed by gold. Apart from tragic situations in developing countries (eg Zimbabwe) it has been some time since a fiat currency imploded. Gold is nothing more than material for jewelry or high end electronic goods to most.

The upside to all this is the gold market is so tiny, a monster move upwards can happen very easily. This prospect keeps me interested in the metal. If I was a beaten-up hedge fund manager I might consider gold as my only short term salvation. Not many other avenues left for big ST gains with tighter credit markets, limits on short selling, etc.

I bet we are higher today, and tomorrow...

Try buying some bullion and I think you will get a different perspective. Ask a bullion dealer if this market is lethargic. Take a look at what is still available and what is sold out. Tulving was one of the only dealers that used to maintain an inventory of bullion. If we really have a crisis here, I don't think flipping gold stocks or even CEF or GLD will be important for a while.

<I am shocked and befuddled at the lethargy being demonstrated.>

Do you call a $140 move in 2 days lethargic? I would think that it needs to rest and will make the next move once the bailout plan is passed.

Most gold bugs are probably out of money with their portfolios cut in half by the correction. Funds are strapped for money too and the high level of redemptions don't help the cause. Other investors are probably shell shocked, not just gold bugs so people are running from the markets. It will take a bit of time but I believe the move to gold is happening. Just take a look at GG. Tremendous volume. Also, I haven't seen some juniors move like they have during the last few days in a while.

That being said, yeah, I'm still nervous.<G>
