I have just been reading about 75 of the 350+ comments on the Senate hearing report in the New York Times. So far, not a single one expresses anything close to approval of the Paulson plan. Criticism of Congress itself as contributing to the problems is as close as it gets.

I think Obama and McCain may be missing a golden opportunity by failing to forthrightly reject the whole plan. McCain may be in a bind because of his loyalty to Bush, but Obama could speak out. Maybe he is just putting together some comments that are more carefully considered than the plan itself.
