Democrats to let offshore drilling ban expire

Won't make a bit of difference here on the left coast. Arnie is against it, even though a deal with the oil companies could wipe out our 15B dollar debt.

Just last week, the House passed legislation to open waters off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to oil and gas drilling but only 50 or more miles out to sea and only if a state agrees to energy development off its shore.

Republicans called that effort a sham that would have left almost 90 percent of offshore reserves effectively off-limits.

More like 100%, as the bill prevented states from seeing any revenue from drilling they did allow, killing all incentives.

It's a significant victory that the Dems won't fight to stick the moratorium into a continuing resolution. Maybe they decided they couldn't afford a government shutdown just now, even if it hurt the Republicans more.
