I think it is very plausible that Buffet got a call from the feds pushing him to take this bold move into Goldman Sachs. including offering incentives, encouragements, guarantees, financing, you name it.... The feds are hyper-worried that a loss in confidence in the financial system is a killer. This, sudden, splashy investment by grandpa Buffy is just the thing to make everybody convince themselves that if Warren Buffet believes in our system then so do we.
