There simply isn't a practical difference between:

things happening to you because of what you did, and

things happening to you as a result of some judgment of what you did.

In both cases, the result (things happening to you) follow from your actions (what you did). The only difference is whether the thing which connects the result with your actions is personalized or not.

The question was not whether or not they happen to you because of what you did, but are they the result of some judgment being passed on to you. You are changing the subject
