Speaking of the NYT, McCain and Fannie Mae.... Here's something from 5 years ago.

New Agency Proposed to Oversee Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae

query.nytimes.com

So was there ever a New Agency to oversee Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae?

And of course everyone is probably now familiar of this:

"I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole."

John McCain - May 25, 2006

Did you see Dick Morris on Bill O'Reilly today? Morris was thrilled with McCain. Said McCain would ride into Washington, get the bill passed, be the white knight, the leader of his party.

Morris' analyses have been hit and miss imo all year, but on this one, from his mouth to God's ear. Hopefully the bill won't be too egregiously stupid and expensive.

McCain doesn't know much about economics but it sounds like he's been learning fast and taken advice. And he has the soldier's instinct to run towards the sound of gunfire. Obama, by contrast, freezes.

Wow! They REALLY caught the NYT with their pants down. Can wait to see their response to this.

It will be a repeat of their previous defense: McCain's campaign attacks us, in a most unfair and partisan fashion. We always cover both campaigns fairly. Okay, maybe we got a teeny weeny detail about Rick Davis wrong, but we've corrected it.
