<>>People are debating what to do with the windfall. That is just unreal to me.<<>

Since I can't express myself, I will try again. Our congress is fighting over how the govt gets to SPEND the windfall. I can understand the thinking if there are $$$ to be made, so who/which federal programs get the money? Several staffers apparently were spitting enough venom at each other that they were told to cool it or take it outside. I personally think it is a little premature to get into a fist fight over who gets to run with the profit at this time.

<They are simply not going to agree to $700bn> without adding their own stuff.

I agree. Congress is the ultimate decision maker. You put two people in a room, you will get two different ideas. Does congress have the right focus and then the right enough solutions? We will have to wait to find out.

The three questions I have asking myself are:

If I were Bank A, what do I need to sell to the government and at what price?
If I were Bank A, what else do I need to get to normal function?
If I were Bank A, what would I need to see outside for me to function normally with others?

Obviously this is just one viewpoint, of many viewpoints. We are use to seeing things from our own viewpoints, of course. I ask from the viewpoint of the banks because if they don't get untied, what do we have? There are a decent number of congress people who are saying privately and publicly, let the chips fall. We are rescuing them, we don't need them, they need us.

I disagree. We need them to get to normal credit patterns. Our society runs on credit. We understand no gas equals no driving, etc. We may not understand no credit equal no a lot of important things. We are rescuing ourselves thru them. That should be the understanding and the focus.

Can we go around the banks and accomplish the same end? Maybe but any solution will have to unfreeze the banks because they are a critical part of our economic machine.

I know I am repeating myself. So time to be quiet.
