Back when Mish, and others, were documenting the housing bubble and predicting its demise, Paulson-Bernanke-most politicians were denying the problem and reciting the "strong fundamentals" BS. Then, when the unraveling started, they were calling us kooks and pessimists, , chanting "strong fundamentals", and keeping Ron Paul out of the media. Then, when shanty-towns and unemployment started rising, they were praising themselves for containing the problems and chanting "strong fundamentals".

Now, though we still have "strong fundamentals" they are telling us to come together for the good of the country. Damage would have been less if they'd come together with us, years ago.

We can kick the incumbents in the balls on November 4. Someone here was going to print this bumper sticker: "ALL OF THEM!" As far as I know, there's no copyright, and most print shops can make them.

Some of these clowns actually have been there all along.

And as with the lead up to the vote in Congress with respect to Iraq, they have been lied to. There have been plenty of lies here -- somebody posted a bunch of quotes from Paulson y-day.

Congress historically has not been subjected to a barrage of lies and obfuscation and threats, and that pretty much has been the play book with this regime.

I do fault this Congress for not impeaching Bush over the Valerie Plame incident. And many others.

In that sense though I agree with you... they've allowed their dysfunctional system to grow (e.g. earmarks) and have lost touch with what they were empowered to do in the Constitution. I suspect that if term limits had ever become law, we'd be a far stronger country today. All these representatives and senators who were in their last term wouldn't be perpetually focused on reelection and so easy to buy off.
