ST, > And who exactly was it that enslaved the blacks who needed to be freed by "Christianity"?

Cause you know, no Buddhist society would ever tolerate slavery ... LOL

Uponn investigation, you may be right in claiming there were hospitals (if you are so claiming) in ancient India. However, it doesn't look like Ashoka built any of them:

There is no evidence in these or any other of King A´soka’s edicts that he built any hospitals.

Looks like you're not disputing my statement on Christianity originating universities and mass education and literacy. (You could have mentioned Queen Salome on that subject but then I think there are "political" reasons you wouldn't do that.)

And who exactly was it that enslaved the blacks who needed to be freed by "Christianity"?

Christianity first abolished slavery in Europe and the Mediterranean world. When it was revived by Portugese (yes, Christian Europeans) who acquired their first slaves from Muslims in west Africa and employed in European colonies (not in the European homeland), it was Christian abolitionists who stamped it out a second time. Not many religions have spawned abolitionist movements.

I don't remember reading, "We hold these truths to be self-evident..." anywhere in any Christian religious texts.

And I didn't quote them as coming from any Christian religous texts. I said the people who wrote those words were Christians. And except for a couple Unitarians (who nevertheless considered themselves Christian), they were.

Do enlighten us how the US Declaration of Independence and Constitution define Christianity.

They don't do so in any direct way. However, the Declaration does ground human equality and rights as being endowed by the Creator. I suppose that would be consistent with any religious tradition that recognizes a Creator. Although the folks who wrote the Constitution happened to be Christians.

On the other hand, we do have Christian leaders claiming that the city of New Orleans was not destroyed because of sloppy and over strained levies (that was previously predicted) but due the will of God.

Hardly a normative belief of Christians as a whole.
