Lots of things are possible. A depression is more likely than all sorts of other things that are still possible.

But a depression, absent massively and unusually stupid monetary policy, and/or foolish government intervention in the economy on a scale that neither of us has come close to seeing in our lifetimes, is very very unlikely.

Of course neither of those two factors can be ruled out, but they are at least somewhat unlikely. A real risk, but hardly inevitable.
