I have been buying the likes of BAC, C, PNC, and a little WFC in the last few days. The rush of funds transfers into these banks is part of the reason. Another reason is the across the board shorting of the banks. Unlike the well informed people here, many novice bears are shorting any bank they can think of, whether they are strong or struggling. The strong banks are going to eat the weak banks, as we are seeing tonight. The strong banks also won't have to accept bailout terms if they are too onerous.

I believe that when the dust finally clears the strong banks are going to dominate the new landscape.

Although I am long the strong banks, I will still short the weak ones when the no-shorting rule expires. Many of the weak will die.
