It can start in a week if they inject money in the system. Suppose the governement solution were to print money directly instead of through the reserve system, which requires borrowing. They could flood the world with 10x or a 100x the amount of dollars and there is your hyper-inflation.

Lets be realistic, we know we have as consumers, as businesses and as government more debt that we can possibly pay off. We can't default so we cheapen the money. The problem right now is that to increase money in circulation someone nees to borrow. Consumers and government are tapped out so govt has to borrow from foreigners, who become increasingly reluctant to lend the money. So what, just change the law and print whatever you need.

I don't know when the above will occur but I think it is better than even money that it will
