Hi Peter -

I'm not aware of where you stand on the issue of Paulson's proposal; it's assumed that the Motley Fool article indicates you're in favor of immediate acceptance.

Being Canadian I have an opinion, but not a vote. If it all goes bad I'll lose in unpredictable ways, but I don't have skin in the game. Not directly.

This crisis is non-trivial. But interim measures have straightarmed collapse, and it's my belief that there's time for deliberation and evaluation of alternatives, before irreversible changes are adopted.

I believe it's quite possible that Paulson & Co are either witting or unwitting captives of thought from the domains in which they operate. If so, such insular thinking should be bridged. Are the actors capable of manufacturing events that in effect, extort the response they want from the electorate? I don't believe that's true, but I'm not sure it isn't.

For that reason, I support those who want to evaluate all the options - including successful efforts by predecessors in similar crises, and proposals such as Meltzer's.

That said, I remain considerate of the difficulties, and respectful of all views.
