i detect in mccains body language a sort of hysteria that comes from desperation. The pick of palin has backfired as the the economic debacle has taken center stage. I suspect mccain wants to be president a little too much and he seems more and more like a petulant child than a mature senator. If McCain helps in getting this paased with one of his gang of 8 gambits, I will be the first to give him credit but it looks to me that his appearance on the scene for better or worse has worked against the assorted gang of 8s who had come together two days ago to a point where passage was imminent.

Personally, I think it's great that he is jeopardizing his campaign to work on the bailout. If the junior senator from Illinois wants to join in, he can. The point is that most think he is not doing that...he is trying to rescue his campaign. His net add to the debate so far is zip...he asked his GOP friends to stir up some opposition to a bill for which they had indicated support only a day earlier...this is broadway theater. Al
