Lehrer set it up that way. He stated at the very beginning that he wanted the candidates to speak to one another directly. McCain didn't fall for the bait, and rarely even looked in The One's direction.

I think that was wise since they really aren't in the same league. In this respect, McCain controlled the debate by keeping his comments directed forward, towards the audience and the moderator.

This frustrated The One imo.

I remarked to my wife that the producers showed Obama reacting to McCain but not McCain reacting to Obama, which I thought was skewed coverage. She said they did show McCain reacting to Obama.

I must have missed it. I must be biased.
