I watched yesterday my summary is:
- neither candidate had provoking thoughts on bailout likely because bailout package is not known
- I saw only one radical thought from each candidate. When McCain said he would freeze govt spending and Obama indicated his thoughts on how to deal with Pakistan in the Afghan conflict. On this issue Obama showed better understanding of the problems in that region than McCain, in fact when McCain dilly-dallied on Pakistan issue ("we don't do/say these things directly") Obama had an oppty to pounce and link this secretive behavior to current admin and connect to lies etc but Obama did not use that for some reason
- McCain could have been less condescending with his "you don't understand" rhetoric, Obama somehow was more subdued in his responses etc. He needs to do better without appearing arrogant
- McCain has of course lot more experience but he is older, and Obama could have brought this out in a humorous tone to indicate "while experience is good, we will deal with very different situation after current turmoil as Jim Lehrer pointed out and to resolve that youth/energy/enthusiasm/presence of mind will likely help more" McCain could not spell the name of Pakistan's president
- Overall I think Obama can do a lot better; knowing that McCain has a temper he could have tried triggering it to show its disadvantage :-)

We lost Paul Newman. Along with James Garner and James Coburn, one of the coolest actors ever. I count that Newman starred in at least 10 films that I would rank in the Top 100 of all time. I knew he should have never eaten those 50 eggs in "Cool Hand Luke." If Newman's Own made whisky, I'd pour a shot for Paul.

What are we going to do about this Palin person?

If Alitalia is still flying Wednesday, I will probably miss her "debate" with Biden. It might be somewhat like encounters between an old sheltie and a naive and deluded young pet rabbit that I once owned. The rabbit seemed to think it was the intellectual equal of the sheltie.
