IMO they are also providing a public service.

Of course they are. My primary Doctor is one of them. On my normal stuff, he is fine. Did his residency in Internal Medicine, and is with Kaiser here in Honolulu. Been going to him for 5 years, and I know him pretty well.

When I saw him after my Heart Scan, he had a copy of the scan and checked me over. During our conversation, he commented, "you can get too much information." He obviously felt that my "within range" Lipid panel and my lack of symptoms meant that I didn't have a problem. Gave me a script for 20mg of Simvastatin and as I left his nurse gave me two handouts with the rest of the paperwork. One, telling me to lower my blood sugar, [94], and the other to go on a diet.

OTOH, he scheduled me for a Nuclear stress test, a real overkill based on no symptoms. "Defensive Medicine."

If I had been "Joe Sixpack," I would have taken the statin until I got the leg pains I did get and then quit it, as most do when they get muscle aches from them, and remained fat, dumb and happy until my plaque increased, I had chest pains, and got scheduled for the Cath Lab.

I think I got exactly the treatment you are talking about. And it's not good enough. Sure, most won't follow it, as most don't follow any doctor's advice. But give people a chance by planning a full preventive treatment. If they don't drink the water you have led them to, so be it.
