The quality of printed news sources is extremely low - even though a newspaper has a good reputation, much of the content is ill picked or badly researched. If you want good news info, you need to do one of these:

* Start using a feed reader. I am currently reading 417 different places on the internet, at least 3 times a day. It is impossible to get an overview of this amount of information without a feed reader. I probably spend 30-45 minutes a day doing this - and by using Google Reader mobile, I don't need to sit at a PC while doing it (http://www.google.com/reader/m )

* Read news in at least three languages. If you only read English news, and then switch to German, you feel like you were brainwashed before the switch. I read news in German, English and Danish, and sometimes Dutch. With the Google translate system this has become easier for those that don't know many languages.
