Fed has set up ways to slice and dice troubled institutions and figure out a disposition before you even know they are troubled. The sale is announced and business goes on as usual. The only problem is customers of the sold off institution may have to get new checks or set up payees on a new website. Bank Regulators are quite savvy and the chance of a severe meltdown are slim to none imo. The so called bail out is a smoke and mirror type power grab. Paulsen imo saw an opportunity to get rid of a big competitor. Why else wait until after the demise of two big houses to allow investment banks fed bank status?
