I am in the same camp as Michal Lewis, who writes at Bloomberg "the Treasury plan also creates this wonderful hidden opportunity for Goldman Sachs to make a killing, and thus preserve its bonus pool for a long time to come." bigpicture.typepad.com knighty, the wall street mess was is all about putting the wealth of specific individuals above the interests of the company or the nation. lehman was leveraged 35-1 when buying this all but worthless paper. now, you can imagine how indidivduals LOVED 35x the commissions... which they get to keep even with this bailout. essentially, these few people monetized their company and the nation for personal gain. oh, and watch out. $700 billion will buy a lot of lobbyists to derail any kind of serious reform. these fat cats will eventually get their leverage back and play the same game as they grease their respective politicians.
