During Friday's debate, John McCain assiduously and inexplicably avoided using the issue that might have won him the debate and the presidency: opposition to a taxpayer-funded bailout of the financial crisis.


Sometimes Morris is such a dunderhead. McCain avoided the issue because the bailout bill is in the middle of delicate negotiations; if McCain had turned it into a political football in the middle of the debates, then he would have been justly accused of blowing up the deal.
