PETER HITCHENS What can you say about an article filled with his impressions? He can see the problems though his Socialist outlook, but can't see any solutions. Every country there is like Haiti. A corrupt elite that will do anything to stay on top, living off the droppings of Western Civilization. The Chinese are going at it the old 19th Century way. Under all that surface suffering, lets hope some of the infrastructure stays in place. Are the people worse off because of the West? Would they be living in huts as "Noble Savages," with bucolic babies? Life would be even shorter and more dismal without the Chinese.
