A few years ago, one of my buddies had Fannie as the largest position in his portfolio, and he ran a very large mutual fund. His performance over the long haul had been outstanding and he was on the cover of several magazines. We were on the elevator and he happened to ask me what I thought of the co. He wasn't on this list, so I hope he paid some attention early enough. It may have worked. Back in the day when I would only buy Treasuries for my bond fund, he heard my answer about why I would never had Fannie or Freddie to the mix, even though I thought the bonds would always be bailed out. Loss of liquidity can be a problem nearly as big as lower bond prices.
