What is Bill Gross talking about?

"We can do a granular analysis of any mortgage security or package in 10 to 15 minutes to determine their fair value," he [Bill Gross] claims.

My admittedly naive understanding of the "mortgage crisis" is that the vast majority of the problem is that no one knows and/or can agree on the value of these mortgage derivatives. Bill Gross apparently is stating that the value of these things is trivial to determine. He's either just plain wrong (or lying) or I am misunderstanding something (which is entirely possible, as my grasp of quantum mechanics is far better than my understanding of why we have the problems we have right now - many of the things I hear folks in finance and government say sound like a bunch of, ah, shall we say hand-waving to me).

Is Bill Gross' statement grossly incorrect (intentional pun, sorry) or am I missing something?

Thanks!
