The ideal time to hold that press conference was at least a couple of days before McCain made the announcement. That would have kept the whole thing in Alaska. Dropping that particular bomb a day after they announce her as McCain's VP choice guaranteed it would be a media circus. Unless McCain's handlers were totally incompetent, they knew it too.
