There's no way out for the United States except debt renunciation. It appears that's going to be by dollar devaluation and inflation. But there will be competitive devaluation (China recently cut interest rates), so even with a serious world-wide recession agricultural commodities should do well against most everything else, and oil ought to bounce back. Americans will go right on driving with gasoline at $8.00 a gallon. Maybe not as much, but they can't give it up.

I did add 30% to my gold position this morning at the open (CEF, because the premium didn't seem so bad any more).

You might want to hold off on that...Paulson/Bernanke surely have a Plan B to scare the American people into supporting a bailout. It'll be something really scary...like a record drop in the market.
