CJ, I'm beginning to see the significance of the Pelosi pre-vote speech. According to Paul Krugman of the NYT, the Dems can't just go out on their own:

So they need to work with the Republicans on the bailout plan. Only problem is that Pelosi can't resist opening her big mouth. That and other political missteps, which would be considered minor in any other context, helped contribute to the collapse of the deal.

I think my belief in Pelosi and Reid being utterly incompetent was justified today. Only problem is that, like the greedy idiots on Wall Street who threw common sense to the wind, Pelosi and Reid will be VERY richly rewarded for their actions.

By the way, don't think I'm letting the House Republicans off the hook, either. No guidance, no leadership, no unity, makes them look like severe hosers.
