HCA Corporation(You do know who they are, don't you)had to make restitution of $1.7 billion dollars because of fraud against our health care system.

At the time of the Medicare fraud, HCA was not controlled by the Frist family. In fact, it wasn't even HCA then, it was Columbia Health Care (COL), a company that started in Texas. The CEO at the time was a Texas dude, I can't remember his name--but he is the one that should have served time, and he got off more than free. After the Columbia fraud, the Frist family took back control of the company, changed the name to HCA, and then took it private.

Bill Frist, by the way, sold all of his shares of the company before he was Senate Majority Leader.

I went to school with one of the Frists--good people that have donated more to the Nashville community then most can dream about.

TD,

We live together. We owe duties to each other, duties which society has determined carry weight of law. It is a social compact. Our laws codify the rules of how we live together.

Even charity is reflected in our laws and certainly in the operating decisions of our health care enterprises. Call it what you will Christian, Judaism, ethical behavior, societal compact.

>>IJ...50% of the bankruptcy cases are filed by individuals that are forced to this action because of MEDICAL needs.

I have not studied this. There may be data to support that view. But I will tell you that my observations suggest that credit card misuse is more of a factor than medical. Bankruptcy does give people a clean start. What is the problem with that? It is a voluntary act.

I certainly support our laws against fraud.

>>Come on IJ...tell me where these individuals are going to get these "fresh" starts when Mitt Romney is buying up companies and then moving the jobs overseas.

So then do you favor devaluing the dollar? That would go a long way to shifting jobs to the US. Or are you one of those strong dollar hypocrites? Or are you just ignorant of the impact of exchange rates on trade?

>> IJ..you deny history for a reason!

LOL - Another straw man argument! What history did I deny?

>>IJ...did you see what happened today with our opportunities for "fresh" starts...tell that to a Lehmann employee, a Washington Mutual employee, an AIG employee, and the list extends to the moon.

The FED has decided to let the financial system deleverage. It is not over. The leverage was legislated by Congress and FED accommodation ended. Now you can blame Bush and Republicans but that reflects your very shallow understanding.

Whether you agree with our social compact or not - it is our system. Your idealization of a world where people do not pay for what they get, all have high paying jobs and the prisons are empty would simply not work. You can only live in Camelot because you live an illusion - it is not the real world.
