"The cynics are saying Ms. Pelosi deliberately tanked the bill by giving 95 Democrats a pass" Could be. If so, the Republicans jumped at the bait. Not only did McCain grandstand the whole thing, including taking credit for it right before it went down in flames, the House Republicans got very connected with its defeat. Especially when they tried to pin the blame for the failure on Pelosi. They passed up an excellent opportunity to make the case for their opposition, but chose to whine instead.
