Oh yeah, the prices - Arcxel $2950/port copper - MKII $2295/port copper. Let's see, 16 Arcxel copper ports (2 boxes) = $47,200 - Ancor (1 box) = $36,720. Only need 8 copper ports? Arcxel = $23,600 - Ancor = $18,360. Need Fiber-optics? Out of luck with Arcxel. Is there a compelling reason to spend more than is necessary? I don't think so.

<< The Arcxel switch was addressed here when it was first announced July 17 >>

I remember it being talked about. But nothing was brought up about Hucom to the best of my recollection.

<< Arcxel Sept announcement says production in October. Original announcement in July said production in September. >>

Your splitting hairs over one month? How late was ANCR's new switch? A couple of quarters?

<< Hucom has contracted similar agreement w/Ancor and has already bought and has contracted to buying more (with $ amounts). >>

Can you please provide me a reference that details the additional orders from Hucom and their dollar amounts? As far as I know it's $7.4 million and nothing more.

<< C'mon guys, aren't we getting a little gun-shy lately? >>

Possibly, but I find it interesting that ANCR was founded in 1981 and has been proclaimed the Fibre Channel "leader". I used to believe it, thinking that the only reason ANCR hadn't taken off was because there wasn't more than a niche market for FC products. This thread helped convince me that FC is heating up but it is obvious that Ancor isn't benefitting much and they aren't the leader anymore. Arxcel was only founded last year and it seems to be at least competitive to ANCR, doing all three classes plus intermix and AL (This was after people on this thread claimed that ANCR had a "lock" on Class 1 with their "broad patents". Brocade was founded only 2 years ago and it swooped in and snagged SQNT out from under ANCR.
IMO part of ANCR's appeal was that they had been championing FC for a long time and apparently had a huge lead in FC development. I thought that ANCR had Hucom all to themselves because they had the best solution. Now I hear that they are also selling Arxcel switches and someone told me Brocade as well.
FINE WITH ME. I can accept companies using multiple vendors. I will be happy to apologize to everyone on this thread for calling the company Ancorpse WHEN I see SQNT using ANCR as a second vendor. Why wouldn't they? ANCR's new switches support all classes now and the interop issues with Emulex and HP are solved aren't they?
I will think that Hucom selling switches from multiple vendors is no big deal if I see SUNW using Ancor AND Brocade for their OEM deal.

For a company that has been involved with FC since the early 80's I can't believe they aren't a TOTAL SHOE IN for all the FC business such as SUNW and CPQ.
