What are the two official duties of the VP? In case you don't know, I'll tell you:

1) President of the Senate - breaks any ties and certify the electoral college vote.
2) Steps in when the President crooks.

Given we are considering a 72 year old man with a history of cancer, I'd say that it would be EXTREMELY prudent to judge the qualifications of the VP candidate NOW, and not when it is too late.
