There's a lot more to it, of course, but the point is that the allegations made by the Swifties were not confined to the right-wing bloggosphere.

Even then, the mainstream media did whatever they could to either ignore the issue, attack the Swifties themselves, or discuss the effects they had on the election. Hardly any time was spent weighing the actual message and the testimonies from the various Swifties.

Just ask CBS, who thought fake faxes from Abilene, TX deserved more of their time and attention than John O'Neill's bestseller.
