Haskell "was trying to be a Good Samaritan and coming to the aid of a young lady," said Little Rock Police Lt. Terry Hastings. Police say Jessica Canady was eating in the McDonald's when Kennon arrived in a blue Nissan Pathfinder. "She came out and they got into it, and he hit her," Hastings said. "The employee came outside and intervened." Police say Kennon fled in a blue Nissan after shooting Haskell with a small-caliber handgun.
