The good thing is that Ifill's bias is widely known. People will expect it and allow for it.

Anyone who replaced her would be just as biased in fact.

My take is that it is virtually impossible to find any unbiased media person to moderate a debate. I did think Lehrer
did a decent job the other day. Ifill will have to be scrupulously fair given the accusations of bias. Perhaps the furor will cause her to temper her natural impulse to torpedo Palin.


Gwen Ifill has always been a good journalist. But this isn't about her journalism. This is about her having a financial stake, to the tune of several hundred thousand dollars if her book sells well, in an Obama victory. If McCain wins, her book will sell a hundred copies to friends and family.

This is a conflict of interest, as plain and simple as it gets. She should no more be the moderator than NFL referees should be allowed to bet on the games they oversee.
