$2.7 billion for Iridium 2 = ouch, that's real money.

Globalstar 2 requires only $1 billion. When push comes to shove and Globalstar is in the sky with free minutes, it's going to make Iridium look a very very risky investment.

It's like a game of chicken and the first one to launch their second constellation will effectively throw their steering wheel out the window. The one which hasn't launched then has to go ahead and launch anyway, thereby "crashing" into the first one to "win" which is likely to lead to impoverishment for both.

It might be that there is sufficient market with "free" minutes that both new constellations would fill to the brim and prices would have to be raised to hold usage to acceptable levels.

Globalstar is likely to do as previously and adopt hopeless marketing plans causing very little usage and another bankruptcy.

Watching and waiting, with cash on the sidelines,
Mqurice
