Which is true. He wasn't trying to hasten its collapse. At least not by his second term. He was trying to make peace with it. Which was the right thing to do.

I'm not saying that Reagan and others weren't trying to defeat the USSR before that, but Reagan decided after Gorbachev came to power that he could negotiate with him, and thought he would save the world by doing so. Know anything about Reagan's "little green men" stories?
