I also see a recession but you'd be surprised at how simple it would be to start paying down the debt and cleaning up the mess if we just had the political will to do it. The whole problem is special interests. The reason stuff would be relatively easy to fix if we could just get rid of special interests is because we have a 13 trillion GDP and we receive about 2.5 trillion in tax receipts per year.

Right now the nation is NOT overtaxed, so if you could increase tax receipts slighly and move around expenditures we would be back in surplus territory. That would require cutting the military expenditures by 50% which should be doable because we have too many stupid wasteful wars going on now, and change healthcare to single payer. Those 2 things would change everything. But no way can they do that until there is some sort of change of political will.
