That type of selling into new buyers would be easy to monitor, as all insider sales would have to be filed as well. Merlin's a long-term investor, not a trader -- I don't think he's ever sold a single share.

Insider buying doesn't mean the price won't continue to fall shorter term, but (without follow-on selling) it does show that insiders expect to be able to sell higher longer term. The longer term fundamental value is what the insiders have good insight into, whereas they can't control shorter-term market fluctuations.
